It has been suggested that committee members should introduce themselves so you know who they are. So I thought I would follow Simons' example and write a short bio about me.
Introduction: My name is Ian Tidy; I work for the Napier City Council as a GIS Analyst / Developer in the Works Asset Department. My main role is to provide support systems for Asset Managers, Engineers, GIS / CAD Staff, and the maintenance of Asset related data. I do very little capture work (yeah). Employment History: 2003 - Napier City Council 1995 - 2003 - Marlborough Lines 1994 - 1995 - Computers In Action 1989 - 1994 - Marlborough Computer Services Experience with MapInfo: I started with MapInfo Professional in about 1998. Since then I have worked with most of MapInfo's major products. My favourite is SpatialWare, followed by MapXtreme Java (even though I don't use it), and then MapInfo Professional and MapBasic. My least favourite would be Exponare followed by MapExtreme .NET, this is mainly because I'm not a fan of the .NET framework or Microsoft, and also because of the performance of the products. MapInfo Tricks: Affine transformation in SpatialWare is really cool and great for shifting the CRS. Qualifications: Electrical Service Technician (A and B Registrations) School Certificate in Maths, English, and Science (failed Tech Drawing and Geography) I also have a host of other certificates in MapInfo Products, SCADA Systems, Communications, and Electrical Training. Currently I am undertaking the GIS Diploma through Massey University. All going well I should finish soon. Other GIS Experience: I also play and work with other GIS products including open source product GRASS, QGIS, MySQL, and recently MapServer, and PostgreSQL. I also have experience with GPS technology (including installing and running a GPS Base Reference Station). I also use Safe FME, Bentley Systems Products (GeoGraphics, PowerMap, PowerDraft, Microstation, and PowerCivil) and occassionaly ESRI products (when I have to, normally avoided at all cost). What I'd like to know more about: C++, Web Technologies, Metedata (I know I'm sick), and whatever else looks fun at the time. What I have forgotten: Not to sure, but probably lots. When I remember I'll let you know. Cheers Ian This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Blog Site : http://iantidy.blogspot.com |
