Problem : The “Info tab” is the portal to all of the data within map layers and external databases, but had very limited functionality. Once records are selected in the map they can’t be removed from the selection set using the info tab - they must be deselected in the map window, which makes it difficult to reduce the selection set based on displayed attributes. If a query populates the info tab with objects that are a long distance apart, the map window automatically zooms to fit all objects, this can be very disorienting for users. To zoom to an object in the info tab, the user must highlight the record, click the apply button then click the zoom to active selection, this is very tedious, time consuming and not intuitive for users. No use is made of right mouse clicks, double mouse clicks, etc. which is an expected functionality. Solution : To overcome the above limitations, it is suggested that the Administrator have the ability to define the controls for the “Info tab”. For example the Administrator would be able to set the following “Info tab” controls - Action for Left Mouse Click, Action for Right Mouse Click, Action for Double Mouse Click, Action for Shift & Mouse Click, Action for Control & Mouse Click, Action for Query Results Returned. The above settings for mouse clicks would have drop down lists containing the following choices – No Action, Zoom to Selected Record, Make Selected Record Current, Remove Record From Selection Set, Launch External Link Out (includes either a nominated link or a pop up list of all available). The above setting for query results returned would have drop down lists containing the following choices, No Action, Zoom to All Records, Zoom to First Record. These changes would be a create a productivity improved and make Exponare much more intuitive for the user. Requested on ALGMUG by:Paul Nicholson Comments (0)
