As most of you would know, PB MapInfo have decided to give MapBasic 9.0 away FREE of charge.

PB MapInfo have undated MapBasic to incorporate the new features of MapInfo Professional 9.0 which has been released in the US and will soon be available in New Zealand and Australia.

MapBasic is a BASIC like language that allows you to programmatically control MapInfo Professional.  Unfortunatley, MapBasic 9.0 will not work properly with previous versions of MapInfo Professional.  This has always been the case with MapBasic.

MapBasic is extremely powerful, but lacks a good editor, and this hasn't changed with the new version.  I use both mbCoder (old, but good) and Notepad++ (with a custom language file), these are both freely available.  Some people also use UltraEdit, this is also very good, but is commercial.  If you want the custom language extension for Notepad++, please contact me.  This extension, is only for syntax highlighting.  If you need some help with MapBasic, there are a number of people within this user group (and the MapInfo-L group) who are more than happy to help.

To download your copy of MapBasic 9.0 visit http://www.mapinfopro.com/ and click the "Download MapBasic v9.0 for free!" link.  All the files, manuals, are available once you have filled in the survey.  Once you have written your tool (and want to share it), you can submit it to PB MapInfo to be included in their MapInfo Professional Additional Resources area, or upload it to our Downloads section.
