From Daran Ponter, Project Leader, New Zealand Digital Content Strategy Dear GIS People, On 16 November, the government released a Discussion Document on the Draft New Zealand Digital Content Strategy for consultation. This is your opportunity to tell us whether the challenges, opportunities and priorities identified in the Discussion Document are the right ones. The Digital Content Strategy is important for business, community and the wider government sector. Content is a key enabler in realising a knowledge-led society for our cultural, social and economic benefit. To achieve a content rich New Zealand, it proposes an agenda for action where New Zealanders are actively engaged in the creation, sharing, use and commercialisation of content online and in digital form. The draft Strategy does not make any direct reference to GIS content. This is your opportunity to indicate what priority, if any, the government shoul be placing in this area. You and members from the GIS sector are invited to attend one of the presentation and discussion sessions on the Draft Strategy, being held during November and December (see attached flyer). This is an opportunity to hear more about the Strategy and for you to you to tell us about the priorities for your sector. The National Library would be more than happy to meet with a GIS sector group to work through issues, prior to the Submission date, but leadershiop for this will need to come from your sector. Further details on the strategy and session times are provided on the enclosed flyer (254kb pdf). You can register to attend online at http://www.digitalcontent.govt.nz/. A copy of the Discussion Document is also available at this web address. Submissions can be made to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Submissions need to arrive by Wednesday 20th December. We look forward to your attendance at the presentation sessions and to your submission. Naku noa, n*
